What a great week to be an Eagle! I want to start off by congratulating the baseball team on making it to our first ever College World Series appearance in Omaha.

The Eagles took care of business in thrilling fashion by defeating Georgia Tech in Atlanta and sweeping the Florida Gators in Gainesville. Head Coach Corky Palmer, who has announced this season would be his “swan song” as the skipper for the Eagles, has done an incredible job preparing the team for post season play.

The Eagles will proudly represent the conference and the state of Mississippi in Omaha starting this weekend.

If you can’t make it to the College World Series this weekend, the Baton Rouge alumni chapter has planned a special viewing party at Buffalo Wild Wings.

For those of you who have been to our football viewing parties in the past, you know the drill. Come early, pick a table by the black and gold contingency and buy your own food/drinks.

There is no added or extra cost involved - it is just an opportunity to watch the game amongst friends!

Come and go as you please - we will have shakers, stickers, signs and everything you need to help cheer the Eagles on!

We are also working something out with the University to try and get some CWS merchandise to sell for the big game (hopefully).

Our first event of 2009 is a very special one.  On Wednesday, February 25 we are supporting the Lady Eagle softball team as they take on LSU at Tiger Park. We will set up a tailgate/welcome tent, watch the game and feed the team for their trip back to Hattiesburg.

The new Tiger Park is a fantastic venue for softball and was just completed this week. I encourage all of you to come and support the team, bring your family and friends and enjoy a nice evening supporting Southern Miss athletics. The game starts @ 6:00pm and we hope to have our tailgate/welcome tent setup around 5:15.

We are currently in the process of pricing 25 dinners for the team and coaches (something simple like sandwich, side and coke) around town. If you or anyone you know would be interested in sponsoring meals for the team please shoot me an e-mail as anything will help.
